About

Welcome to Benevento’s History Blog! My name is Nick and I am a History teacher who wants to share my trips, experiences, thoughts, and ideas with other history nerds. I have been a teacher for 11 years in New Jersey and love what I do. I received my Masters Degree in Social Studies Education from Rutgers University and I hope to someday pursue a Doctorate Degree in Early American History.

I’ve had the unique opportunity to teach all grades between 7th- 11th grade. I have taught early American History & Civics, Ancient World History, Modern World History, U.S. History I and U.S. History II. I have also taught History to students of varying learning abilities. Being exposed to different subjects has helped grow my interest in a wide range of topics. I plan to share information and thoughts on many different subject matters in this Blog. My favorite subject area of history is early American history, from Colonial America to the Civil War. My blog has recently focused much attention on the American Revolution, particularly in the state of New Jersey.

My favorite topics in other subject areas include Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Age of Exploration, European Monarchies, the French Revolution/ Napoleonic Era and the World Wars. I plan to post about historical experiences/ trips, thoughts/ questions that peak my interest, and documentary/book reviews.

I have published articles for the following organizations:

Emerging Revolutionary War Era

Benevento’s History Blog is an official proud partner with RevolutionNJ.  RevolutionNJ is a partnership between the New Jersey Historical Commission and the nonprofit Crossroads to the American Revolution Association, created to plan the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution in New Jersey.  While the 250th anniversary is in 2026, events have already begun in 2024 and will continue until 2033, commemorating the signing of the Treaty of Paris and the end of the war.  Benevento’s History Blog is looking forward to this partnership with RevNJ and collaborating with other great history organizations in New Jersey to share events and programs taking place in this great state.  New Jersey truly was the crossroads of the American Revolution!  Make sure to follow RevolutionNJ on Instagram and Facebook.  Visit their website at revnj.org to find out ways to get involved and check out upcoming events!

I am also a proud member of the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route- New Jersey. Check out more info about the organization as well as the significance of the route in my blog post HERE.
